Cowichan Lake Home Visit – Beach Levels Demonstration

Ken Traynor, President of Cowichan Lake and River Stewards Society, has been “walking softly and carrying a big stick!”

Ken, a volunteer with the group and lake resident, has been visiting lake-shore residents who would like a better understanding of what a higher weir would mean on their own beach or shoreline.

Using a simple marked stick and level, Ken is able to show residents what various weir heights would roughly look like on their beach. In the photo at left, the white squares show the levels for this property, as labelled in yellow.  The method demonstrates how different weir heights would mean different things on different properties, and also that all options being proposed are below winter high water.

He invites interested lakeshore property owners to contact him if they would like the demonstration. Watch the video to learn more about the methodology and how to get in touch with Ken.
